Post-Extraction Healing and Implications for Implant Therapy

Presented By:
  • Dr. Srephen Chen
Description:

Once a tooth is extracted, the socket goes through a dynamic sequence of physiologic events to enable the site to heal by formation of a mucosal barrier and bone regeneration within the socket. At the same time, dimensional changes take place that result in a reduction in bone volume at the site. These changes have a significant impact on subsequent therapy to replace the missing tooth with an implant prosthesis. This Learning Pathway will review the biological processes and dimensional changes of wound healing after tooth extraction, and will outline the techniques for managing tooth extraction as carefully as possible.
